The history of the Eguisheim hamlet
and the Ginglinger family

A wine estate in the heart of
the ramparts of Eguisheim

Pass through our pink sandstone porch and open a page of history in the village of Eguisheim. The building, built against the old ramparts, was one of the first gateways to the town. The imposing walls still bear witness to a time when fortifications were erected to protect the inhabitants and the old town.

The history of the Ginglinger family begins in 1610. At a time when winegrowing was still being farmed, the Ginglingers practised mixed farming. By planting vines, they became winegrowers. The wines were made in a large house dating from 1684, located in the heart of the picturesque village. This same house was later to become the Hameau d'Eguisheim

Hosting in guest houses,
a family story

The Hameau d'Eguisheim has always welcomed travellers, both as a restaurant and as a former post office. "Mamama Valérie", Mathieu's grandmother, already welcomed guests in her home. She always took care of everyone, while her husband worked in the vineyard or the cellar.

She was also a lover of embroidery and second-hand goods. It is therefore quite natural that we wanted to restore the old family furniture, witnesses of this past era.

Stéphanie and Mathieu Ginglinger, the 12th generation

The Ginglinger family continued to expand the vineyard with the constant concern to maintain a high quality of production. When the estate reached the size of 9 hectares of vines, Pierre-Henri Ginglinger decided to move the estate out of the village in 1996.

In 2001, the 12th generation started with Mathieu. In 2011, the surface area of the vineyards increased to 15 hectares. That same year, major renovation work was undertaken on the historic building. Stéphanie and Mathieu designed the plans for the 5 guest rooms and 2 gîtes. The Hameau d'Eguisheim was born.
